The 1966 Batmobile

Thwack! Biff! Bap! Ker-pow! Splooch! Klonk! Only a few words to describe the leg­endary 60’s TV show Bat­man. Remem­ber the good old times and for­get the Dark Knight’s 2008 Bat­pod, have a look on the orig­i­nal Batmobile!

In 1955, the Lin­coln divi­sion of Ford Motor Com­pany designed and built a futur­is­tic con­cept car called the Lin­coln Futura.  It was built entirely by hand in Turin, Italy at a cost of $250,000, and like many con­cept cars, was never put in to pro­duc­tion.  In the mid 1960’s, George Bar­ris of Bar­ris Kus­tom City acquired the car for $1 directly from Ford.
Fast for­ward to August 1965, the Bat­man TV show pro­duc­ers approached George to have him build a new Bat­mo­bile for their upcom­ing show.  The only catch was the car had to be ready for action in a mere three weeks.  See­ing the bat-like qual­i­ties his Futura already had, George felt it was the per­fect answer to the quandary 20^th Cen­tury Fox had cre­ated.
Three weeks later in Octo­ber of 1965, the Bat­mo­bile was born and tele­vi­sion his­tory was made…

The Big Bang The­ory does not only excite with its genius humor, but also because of the great t-shirts Shel­don, Leonard, Rajesh and Howard are usu­ally wear­ing.
For that rea­son some­one put together a web­page fea­tur­ing most of the t-shirts the main pro­tag­o­nists of TBBT were wear­ing in the show. There are also links to shops were you can pur­chase them.

That’s how to survive!

I’m sure all of you watched the ground­break­ing TV show Man vs. Wild fea­tur­ing for­mer SAS mem­ber Bear Grylls. This guy has been every­where: deserts, moun­tains, jun­gles, glac­i­ers, forests,  desert islands, the most remote wilder­ness and he even climbed the Mount Ever­est at the age of 23!

Grylls climb­ing cliffs, para­chut­ing from heli­copters, bal­loons, and planes, paraglid­ing, ice climb­ing, run­ning through a for­est fire, wad­ing rapids, eat­ing snakes, wrap­ping his urine-soaked t-shirt around his head to help stave off the desert heat, drink­ing urine saved in a rat­tlesnake skin, drink­ing fecal liq­uid from ele­phant dung, wrestling alli­ga­tors, field dress­ing a camel car­cass and drink­ing water from it, eat­ing var­i­ous “creepy crawlies” [insects], uti­liz­ing the corpse of a sheep as a sleep­ing bag and flota­tion device, and free climb­ing water­falls. Grylls also regales the viewer with tales of adven­tur­ers stranded or killed in the wilderness.

But this is propably the worst part ever: Bear Grylls eats a giant rhino bee­tle larvae:

Pound for pound, insect’s lar­vaes con­tain more pro­tein than beef or fish — the per­fect sur­vival food!
