Seriously folks, this is what music is about. Creating a listenable banging piece of music out of crappy bullshit. El-P just announced via Twitter his remix of Justin Bieber’s track Baby. Honestly, I’ve never listened to this guygirl — whatever it is, but El Producto shows his skills once more!
Go and get the track (Justin Bieber — Baby (El-P Death Mix)) here , and join the conversation on Twitter.
This year, a decade after starting DEFJUX and after overseeing the releases of some incredible albums including the forthcoming release of my dear late and great friend Camu Tao’s brilliant “KINGOFHEARTS” LP, I’m stepping away from my duties as artistic director for the label to concentrate on what I love most: being a producer and an artist full time. This is something I’ve been contemplating for a few years now, and can’t think of a better time or, with the eventual release of Camu’s record, a more poetic way to transition into a new direction.
Let’s hope for all of us this means not the beginning of the end of the most innovative and independnet hiphop label of our times. Apperently they realized something has to change:
The evolution of this industry is, in my opinion, exciting, inevitable and it would be nice to see the DEFINITIVEJUX brand be a part of it.
I’m excited as hwell.
Read the rest of El-P’s announcement to retire as CEO of DefinitiveJux and focus on his music.
Nice video of El-P’s latest track “How To Serve Man”, released on the label’s sampler DefJux Presents… IV. Good news, he is currently working on his third studio album, tentatively titled Cancer for Cure. To keep posted check out the blog of Definitve Jux’s mastermind!
That’s not all: Adult Swim just released another one of their free mix albums, titled ATLRMX.
On ATLRMX, various abstract beat-music types like Hudson Mohawke, SALEM, and Dam-Funk (as well as wild cards like HEALTH and Memory Tapes) remix tracks from Atlanta rappers like Young Dro, OJ DaJuiceman, and Playboy Tre. So if you’ve ever wanted to hear Gucci Mane’s playfully blunted drug talk mixed with Flying Lotus’s playfully blunted squiggles, now’s your chance. Also of note: Prefuse 73 chops up Shawty Lo’s horn-funk banger “Dey Know”, and Young Jeezy gets the El-P treatment. Worlds collide!
This fine piece of music reminds me of the legendary Definitve Swim sampler, also available for free! And if you still don’t have enough of progressive, strange noises, check out Definitve Jux’s vimeo channel to find this music visualized, which makes it even moreawesome!
